A day in the life of a carer

Joan works in a Residential Home for Older Persons. Joan started today at 7am she will work through until 2pm. She commences her shift by helping and assisting residents to wash and dress, and have their breakfast. Joan then helps her colleagues with bed making and other similar light domestic work. Elsie, a resident is going out on a shopping trip with her daughter; Joan assists her to prepare for her trip. Thomas asks Joan if she would help him have a shave with his new electric razor.

During the course of the morning shift Joan assists residents with visits from an Occupational Therapist, a District Nurse and a Doctor. After assisting with serving lunch to the residents Joan participates in writing reports and contributes information at the handover to her colleagues who will now take over at the end of her shift. As she is about to leave Elsie is returning from her shopping trip, Elsie's daughter thanks Joan for helping her mum with composing a shopping list, which proved to be very helpful and time saving.
