Qualifications

Experience of working in care is always useful as are qualifications in care but if you do not have either of these then you can still apply.  Some of the most successful carers have come from completely different backgrounds - anything from engineering to bringing up a family at home.  You must have patience and sensitivity, be willing to learn and have good communication skills.  You also need to be trustworthy and reliable.  Carers will need to show a friendly, sensible and mature attitude.  You don't need any special qualifications or experience.

What training will I receive?

The National Care Standards require every company to provide a good sound induction to working with people with physical difficulties when you first join.  There is also a requirement to train people working in care to meet the National Vocational Standards at levels 2, 3 or 4.  This is a good time to come into care as there will be a lot of training to the job.
