Physical Disabilities

One of the most important things is that you have the right attitude. This means treating people with physical disabilities as individuals; as people who have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. In a nutshell this means treating people as you would like to be treated yourself if you needed the same level of care.

The work is really varied and interesting.  It can mean providing a full range of care to people who have physical disabilities, mobility problems, hearing or visual problems and other needs.  The clients may need 24 hour care and if so this is usually provided wihtin a residential care home.  You would then be working as part of a staff team.  The aim would be to provideany necessary assistance to help the individuals become as independent as possible.  This could mean anything from helping them to get a drink or going to the cinema.

What is involved ?

The needs of adults with disabilities vary from person-to-person. Some people are very independent and need only a minimum amount of support.  Others will need help to do basic daily tasks such as washing and dressing.
